2021 Recap Northern California Lake Fishing

Lake Oroville 2021 Recap

Lake Oroville salmon season started as expected with beautiful and healthy Landlock Kings which lasted all summer long. We kicked off the early spring in the Lime Saddle arm of Lake Oroville. The main tackle we trolled with was Brad’s cut plugs and 8 inch Pro-Troll flashers around 25 – 55 feet. Later in the season as the fish dropped we were running around 100 feet +. Due to historic receded lake levels we did most of our mid/late summer trolling near the dam and main body of Lake Oroville.

Shasta Lake 2021 Recap

Shasta Lake Kokanee are back! This was the first season on a three year plant that CDFW had reintroduced these fish back to the Shasta Lake. Historically Shasta Lake was known for having a healthy populations of Kokanee. Additionally, we were able to put our clients on Rainbow Trout, Browns and Landlock Kings. Shasta Lake has developed into a fishery of epic proportions; meaning our clients have a high probability of bringing home a mix bag of high quality fish. We expect 2022 to be no different and look forward to getting back out there soon.

Whiskeytown Lake 2021 Recap

Unfortunately, we made the hard decision to take this year off from Whiskeytown Lake due to the excessive amount of copepods on the Kokanee and we elected to not put our clients on those fish. Many reports stated the exterior appearance of the fish was very off-putting even though it does not effect the meat of the fish. However, 2022 is a completely different story! So far we are seeing very healthy, clean and early fish coming over the rail. We anticipate this being a phenomenal season and gives us optimism that this Whiskeytown Lake is set to be back on top destination for Kokanee fishing. Stay tuned…..
