Kokanee Kick Off 2022 Whiskeytown Lake
We kicked off the 2022 kokanee season at Whiskeytown Lake in mid April. The size and quality of fish brought in are a great indication of what to come the rest of this season.

April 9th & 10th, 2022
We absolutely wrecked them over a 2 day fishing trip partnered Killer B’s Guide Service along with family and friends. Day 1 we had 30 fish in the boat by lunch time which makes us excited to think this fishery is going to get even better by June! Edge Rods KDR760-1 performed perfectly and exceeded our expectations. Day 2 we brought 40 fish over the rail between both boats. We wrapped up the weekend with a total of 80 fish. It’s always a pleasure fishing with a fellow guide/friend. As the season continues I know there will be more days on the lake together soon!

Whiskeytown Lake did not disappoint in the early season kokanee clients Jeff Wagner and Sonia. We hit easy limits for the clients and crew with a total of 20 fish. Three of them were 16 inches long. Launching at Whiskey Creek, we started in the 5 mph zone fishing shallow and trolled out to the center of the lake where we finished off all before 11 am. Our new KDR760-1 Rods were working over time without any failures. Pautzke Bait natural fire corn with some ultra tuna and garlic added was the top scent. Our Beckman net stayed wet and the weather stayed dry for our guests. Good times with great people from Utah! We can’t wait to have them back on the lake again soon!

It was a very windy and cold morning for this started crew on Whiskeytown Lake with a quick sprinkle of that weird stuff called rain. We had a shorter than normal day due to the clients planes idling at the airport. We caught most of our fish at a depth of 40 to 65 because of the weather conditions. Thank you Knauf Insulation for the wonderful business. Let’s definitely make plans to fish again when there are sunny skies and no wind!

The bite on Whiskeytown Lake was still good especially for 2 of the anglers who got their limits. Bonus points for them since they had never kokanee fished before. We had CDFW onboard to measure and weigh all fish as well to collect data for research. The weather was warm and the bite was hot!

Our day on Whiskeytown Lake was fun, sun, and fish all in the name of Science and Biology. It was a pleasure to work with staff from CDFW. The kokanee action continued with a lot of clean and aggressive silver bullets.
