August 2019 Northern California Fishing Trips

Below are the details regarding AC Guide Service’s August 2019 Northern California Fishing Trips which include locations and recommendations regarding successful techniques and baits utilized.

Whiskeytown Lake – August 24th, 2019

Whiskeytown Lake was on fire today! I had the great pleasure of taking out the highest bidders from the NCGASA annual dinner. We hooked some big Kokanee with a total of 35 fish over the rails. The mixture of fish sizes indicates the easy fishing is going to continue for a while.
My best lures were Brad’s Kokanee Cut Plugs along with Gulls Custom Hoochie Spinners trolled between 48 to 60 ft deep all day at 1.4 mph. Top Scents were Atlas Mike’s Kokanee Glow and Smelly Jelly Tuna & Garlic. We caught fish all over the lake with no spot better than another.

Sacramento River – August 31st, 2019

Over the Labor Day weekend AC Guide Service was out on the Sacramento River chasing beautiful Rainbow Trout in downtown Redding, CA. This late afternoon/evening trip was successful, goes to show that you don’t always have to get up at the crack of dawn to catch fish.
The Sacramento River is currently running around 9800 CFS out of Keswick and the water clarity isn’t at it’s best based on our professional opinion. None the less, it did not stop our clients from bringing in many fish from the Sundial Bridge on down the system.
Several techniques led to our successful day on the river, but our favorite was drifting a size 0 Dick Nite 50/50 spoon with just enough weight to let it barely tickle the bottom. Our second method was to run the Yakima Baits 3.0 plugs in a variety of colors and really work those holes and bends in the river. The third method was to simply bead fish on the drift. Regardless of the technique when one of these fish load up on our G Loomis rods you’re in for a fight.
This is a barbless catch and release fishery and it’s the best place in the state. If you have never experienced this section of the Sacramento River, give us a call or book your trip online and let’s get you hooked up on the best trout fishing in Northern California.
