2019 Northern California Fishing Reports

These Northern California fishing reports have been prepared by your AC Guide Service Captain Anthony Cox to help you catch the most fish possible.

Shasta Lake Trophy Trout Fishing

Everybody knows Shasta Lake was a slow start due to heavy rains and the thermocline not being established, these two factors resulted in a slow bite and long days for me and my clients. As we move forward into the summer months, conditions have improved greatly and we are finding a little more of a consistent bite in deeper water. Preferred tackle has been small spoons with gold and white pattern dodgers in front of them, trolled at 2.5 + mph.

Whiskeytown Monster Kokanee Fishing

This year has shown unprecedent large kokanee in the lake, which comes as a great surprise to us all due to the Carr Fire and its devastating effects around the lake. We have been finding much success using Brad’s Kokanee Cut plugs running 18 inches behind a dodger and Yakima bait number 10 Spin-N-Glows 8 inches behind a dodger. All tipped with shoepeg corn marinated in Atlas Mike Kokanee Glow and/or Smell Jelly Ultra Tuna and Garlic. All our bait is trolled at 1.3 – 1.6 mph, all depending on the wind conditions. I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to change your bait until you find a consistant bite. Don’t just throw the same old bait out the back of the boat and hope that you are going to be successful.

Sacramento River Trophy Rainbows Fishing In Downtown Redding

August 1st was the opener at the Posse Grounds! As always this stretch of water produces some of the largest rainbow trout in the area. This is a catch and release zone. Our success has been drifting Dick Nite 50/50 spoons and Pautzke Balls O’ Fire salmon eggs. We also have much success throwing the Yakima bait mag lip 3.0 plugs.

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing

2019 Salmon season has begun in the upper waters above Red Bluff and true to tradition the entourage of boats ascending upon the barge hole. This location is where 70+ boats have found success catching king salmon for their clients. This year looks like a banner year for King Salmon so book your trips now!
